Audio Words

Overview

A collection of Audacity projects, each containing numerous samples of a specific word.

Uh, why?

When you're making custom audio for mods or videos, you'll often find that the content's of the audio folder don't contain exactly what you're looking for. At that point you have two choices as I see it:

  1. Create completely new audio – you get the exact words that you want, but in a voice that doesn't match anything in Warzone
  2. Splice together existing audio – somewhat more difficult, but results in audio files that sound like they are part of the Warzone

I've gone for option 2 in my mods. In the Audio Directory and Video Directory a lot of care has been taken to transcribe the audio in to text and then add as many labels (tags) to each file as possible to make finding specific words in specific voices easier.

However, there's some common words that you'll need regularly. To make these common words match the less common words in your spliced audio tracks is a time consuming process - because you often have to try lots of different versions of a common word to find one that fits well with the uncommon words before or after it.

To that end, I started making some Audacity projects that contain lots of occurrences of a specific common word so I could quickly test lots of different samples of that word to find the one that sounded best.

How to use them

You'll need Audacity, a free open source audio editor, in order to load these files.

The name of each file indicates what word it contains, and when you open it you'll see a number of tracks for various voices (eg. female, male, collective, etc). You can click the "Solo" button on a specific track if to listen to just that track, then copy and paste audio blocks to your spliced audio project to try them out.

Note: You'll need to unzip these then load the .aup file in Audacity.
