Production and Research issues

How to solve common problems with factories and research labs...

Factories & Droid Production

The following issues are sometimes raised when producing droids...

I designed a droid but it's not appearing at the factory...

Cyborg Transport

Super Transport

Solution:

Each factory starts out with one module and can build small droids. For bigger droids, you need to upgrade your factories to have more modules. This applies to both tank and VTOL factories, but not Cyborg factories (they can produce normal and super cyborgs with just one module).

Use the table to the left to work out how many modules are needed for the various droid bodies.

Note: Transports and VTOLs must be built in a VTOL factory.

Before you can build factory modules, you first need to research "Factory module". Once researched, select a truck or field engineer and then click on a factory and they'll build another module on it (up to a maximum of 3 modules).

The droid won't come out of the factory...

There are various limits that determine how many droids you can make:

  • A total of 999 droids can be made across all players in the game
  • Each player can produce up to 100 droids (single player games) or 150 droids (multiplayer games)
  • Each player can produce up to 15 construction droids (trucks and field engineers)
  • Each player can produce up to 10 commander droids

Note: Mods may allow more or less droids to be built (see: getDroidLimit()setDroidLimit() and Player Initialisation).

When a limit is reached, you can't build any more droids (or droids of that type). If you have any droids in production when the limit is reached, they'll remain in the factory until you lose, recycle or transfer (to another player) some of your existing droids.

Why can't I build more trucks / engineers / commanders?

In the case of commander droids, you need to build a Command Relay Centre first.

Otherwise, see the answer to "The droid won't come out of the factory..." above (wink)

My factory gets stuck on the green bar...

Droid production has two stages:

  1. Power is transferred from your power reserves to the factory (indicated by a green progress bar)
  2. Once the factory has enough power, it will start building the droid (indicated by a yellow progress bar)

If you are low on power, the factory will get stuck on the green bar because it's waiting until it has enough power before it can start production.

To get more power:

  • Make sure you have some oil derricks and enough power generators to make them work (1 power generator per 4 oil derricks)
  • Recycle some old droids or structures
  • Ask an ally to transfer some power (AIs will sometimes transfer power if you send a chat message "!power" or "power")

My droid got stuck behind the factory...

If you build a factory too close to cliffs, droids can sometimes get stuck between the factory and cliffs.

If this happens, you'll either need to recycle the droid or demolish the factory (which might sometimes be a less expensive approach depending on how much your droid cost).

My factory was destroyed and I can't build a new one...

If that type of factory was disabled on the Structure Limits Screen when the game was set-up, it's possible there were already some of that type of factory on the map – but when they get destroyed, you won't be able to build a new one because it's been disabled.

Research Labs & Technologies

I can't work out how to get <whatever> technology...

There's a few resources that might help you find your way around the tech tree:

I've researched <whatever> but I can't build one...

If you've researched a new droid body, you'll first have to design a new droid that uses that body and then make sure your factory has enough modules to be able to build it (see top of this page).

If you've researched a new weapon or propulsion, you'll need to design a new droid that uses it before you can build one.

If you've researched a weapon, wall or armour upgrade, they get applied automatically.

If you've researched a building, such as Laser Satellite Command Centre, it's possible that it's been disabled on the Structure Limits Screen (you can still research it, but can't build it) or maybe you've just reached the build limits for that structure. Note that things like factory, power and research modules can only be build on existing factories, research labs and power generators.

My lab gets stuck on the green bar...

Technology research has two stages:

  1. Power is transferred from your power reserves to the lab (indicated by a green progress bar)
  2. Once the lab has enough power, it will start researching the technology (indicated by a yellow progress bar)

If you are low on power, the lab will get stuck on the green bar because it's waiting until it has enough power before it can start researching.
