Ever wondered what those stars and medals next to your name mean?
Pacifier
If you've played fewer than 4 games, your ranking will be a "pacifier" (a polite way of saying "n00b"):
Stars
Stars show basic statistics about a player. There are three rows (top, middle, bottom) as follows:
Statistic
Position
No star
Bronze
Silver
Gold
Units killed
Top
<150
150+
300+
600+
Games played
Middle
<50
50+
100+
200+
Games won
Bottom
<10
10+
40+
80+
Medals
Medals are used to indicate your win:loss ratio:
Medal
Games Won
Win:Loss Ratio
No medal
<6
<2:1
Silver Chevron
6+
2:1 or better
Double Chevron
12+
4:1 or better
Gold Star
24+
8:1 or better
Both requirements have to be met to achieve the medal. So, if you've won 20 games, but your win:loss ratio is less than 4:1, you'd get a Silver Chevron.
Summary
The lowest rank is the Pacifier – it means the player has played less than 4 games.
The highest rank is 3 gold stars and a gold star medal – it means the player has killed over 600 units, played over 200 games, won over 80 games and has a kill ratio of 8:1 or better.
For developers
Currently human player rankings aren't exposed to scripts – all human players will be set to MEDIUM difficulty, regardless of their rankings.
For information regarding Campaign and AI difficulties, see: Difficulty Levels.
Both single player and multiplayer skirmish games contribute to player ranks. So you could have a very high ranked player who's only ever played against AIs in single player games but they could be useless at multiplayer.
