Camera API

Vague concept for a camera api...

 

Pan and Truck

Pan moves the camera lens left or right, without changing the position of the camera. Truck moves the whole camera left or right, without changing the direction of the lens.

Tilt and Pedestal

Tilt moves the camera lens up or down, without changing the position of the camera. Pedestal moves the whole camera up or down, without changing the direction of the lens.

Roll

Roll swivels the camera from side to side, resulting in the view changing as if you'd tilted your head to the side.

Zoom and Dolly

Zoom and Dolly enable you to change the size of a subject within the viewfinder.

Zoom changes the focal length of the camera, making the subject look smaller when zoomed out and bigger when zoomed in, without changing the position of the camera.

Dolly moves the whole camera towards or away from the subject, making the subject look bigger or smaller in the viewfinder.

DollyZoom

DollyZoom inversely synchronises the camera's zoom with the dolly, so the subject remains the same size in the viewfinder regardless of how close or distant the camera is from it. As the camera moves closer to its subject, the camera will zoom out. As the camera moves further away from its subject, the camera will zoom in.

TrackZoom

TrackZoom is similar to DollyZoom in that the subject will remain the same size in the camera's viewfinder regardless of distance between camera and subject. The key difference is that the zoom is adjusted when the subject moves, not when the camera moves.

Track

Track makes the camera lens track a target object or location. If either the camera or the target moves, the pan and tilt of the camera will be adjusted to keep it in the viewfinder.

Arc

Arc causes the camera to move in a circular arc around a subject while tracking the subject.

Follow

Follow locks the camera's position and roll in relation to a droid, as if the camera was attached to the droid by a metal pole. Whatever the droid does, the camera does. The direction of the lens is not altered, and can be adjusted independently.

If the droid moves up or down, the camera pedestal moves with it. If the droid moves forwards or backwards, the camera dolly moves with it.

If the droid moves left or right, the camera truck moves with it. If the droid rolls, the camera rolls with it.
